JoJo Gaines' Buttermilk Biscuits

An amazingly flaky and delicious buttermilk biscuit recipe from one of our favorite foodies!




Dry Ingredients:

2 cups all purpose flour

1 tbsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda


Wet Ingredeints:

12 oz (1.5 sticks) salted butter, cubed into 1/2 in pieces

1 egg, beaten

3/4 cups buttermilk


Egg Wash

1 egg

1 tbsp buttermilk



1. In large mixing bowl whisk together dry ingredients

2. Add cubed butter and cut in with pastry blender until dough appears crumbly

3. Add beaten egg and buttermilk and stir in with wood spoon. Add more buttermilk if dough is too dry.

4. Cover bowl and let dough rest in refrigerator for a minimum of 30 minutes or up to overnight.

5. On a floured work surface flatten dough with hands until about 1/2 inch thick

6. Cut out biscuits with biscuit cutter or top of glass (about 2.5 inch in diameter)

7. Place biscuits on baking sheet and coat top of biscuits with egg wash

5. Cook at 400 degrees for 18 minutes
